Executive Backyard Patio and Outdoor Living in The Kingsway
Large-format slab patio with an outdoor natural gas fireplace, built-in stone seating, and privacy planting for an executive Kingsway estate backyard.
We designed a 700-square-foot patio using Techo-Bloc Industria slabs in Greyed Nickel, providing a contemporary contrast to the home's traditional stonework. The centrepiece is a custom-built natural gas fireplace with a Brampton Brick veneer surround that echoes the home's facade. Flanking the fireplace, two L-shaped stone seating walls with natural limestone caps create an intimate conversation area. The narrow side-yard access, typical of established Toronto neighbourhoods, required us to transport all materials by compact equipment and hand-carry pavers to the backyard.
Privacy was achieved through strategic plantings of columnar hornbeam along the east property line and a cedar screen on the west. Low-voltage accent lighting highlights the fireplace, the tree canopy, and the walkway transitions. The patio includes a dedicated zone for a dining table and a separate lounge area, each defined by the paving pattern direction.

How We Delivered This Project
Design Consultation
We visited the The Kingsway property to assess the existing conditions, take precise measurements, discuss material preferences, and present a detailed proposal with 3D renderings.
Excavation & Base Preparation
Excavated to the required depth for Toronto's frost conditions and installed a compacted Granular A base with geotextile fabric separation over the local clay subsoil.
Paver Installation & Pattern Layout
Each paver was placed by hand following the approved pattern layout, with edge restraints, border courses, and all cuts made with diamond-blade saws for precision.
Jointing, Sealing & Handover
Polymeric sand was swept into all joints, the surface was compacted a final time, and sealant was applied. We provided care instructions and warranty documentation.
