Lakefront Patio with Panoramic Seating Wall in Aldershot
Expansive backyard patio with large-format pavers, a curved seating wall overlooking Lake Ontario, and wind-resistant design details for an Aldershot lakefront property.
We designed a 500-square-foot patio using Techo-Bloc Industria large-format slabs in Smooth Greyed Nickel, providing a contemporary, clean-line aesthetic. The highlight is a curved freestanding seating wall positioned at the southwest corner, oriented to capture sunset views toward the lake. The wall is constructed from Permacon wall units with a natural stone cap wide enough to serve as both seating and a surface for drinks. The patio grade incorporates a subtle 2% slope away from the home for drainage.
Because of the lake-effect wind exposure, we used enhanced polymeric sand rated for high-wind environments and installed the pavers on a deeper-than-standard base to prevent any lateral movement. The sandy loam soil typical of Burlington's lakefront area actually provided better drainage conditions than the clay soils found further inland, reducing the risk of frost heave.

How We Delivered This Project
Design Consultation
We visited the Aldershot property to assess the existing conditions, take precise measurements, discuss material preferences, and present a detailed proposal with 3D renderings.
Excavation & Base Preparation
Excavated to the required depth for Burlington's frost conditions and installed a compacted Granular A base with geotextile fabric separation over the local clay subsoil.
Paver Installation & Pattern Layout
Each paver was placed by hand following the approved pattern layout, with edge restraints, border courses, and all cuts made with diamond-blade saws for precision.
Jointing, Sealing & Handover
Polymeric sand was swept into all joints, the surface was compacted a final time, and sealant was applied. We provided care instructions and warranty documentation.
