Multi-Tier Garden Retaining Wall in River Oaks
Three-level terraced retaining wall with integrated planting beds and LED cap lighting, addressing a rear grade change in a River Oaks property.
We constructed three retaining wall tiers using Unilock Pisa2 wall units in Sierra, each approximately 20 inches in exposed height. The walls step back from each other, creating planting terraces 3 feet deep between levels. Each tier is engineered with geogrid reinforcement and granular backfill, with a continuous perforated drain pipe system behind all three walls. The wall caps are finished with contrasting natural stone that doubles as comfortable seating edges.
Integrated LED lighting beneath the top cap of each wall tier provides subtle accent illumination in the evening, highlighting the plant textures in each terrace. The planting design features a mix of ornamental grasses, flowering perennials, and evergreen shrubs that provide year-round structure. The completed project added usable outdoor space and eliminated the erosion problems that had been undermining the lower lawn.
